The accident prevention loan scheme aims to reduce accidents that occur in the homes of Hackney residents as part of an ongoing strategy to reduce the number and severity of accidents to children under 5 years of age. The scheme works by lending safety equipment free of charge to Hackney residents. Each site runs similar to a library where members can borrow the equipment for a set period of time, and return them when not needed. Some items such, as smoke alarms are not required to be returned
We also aim to raise awareness of safety issues by providing workshops and activities for parents/carers and children. Our project is growing in both volume and accessibility with more families then ever before being able to access our accident prevention loan scheme. Relevant safety guidelines are provided in the parents/ carers preferred languages and workshops are provided as and when necessary.
The Accident Prevention Loan Scheme operates from at least 7 sites (ensuring adequate cover across Hackney). The sites are provided with equipment and two members of staff to run the scheme.
