Toy Libraries lend good quality, carefully chosen toys to all families with young children, including children with special needs. They also offer a friendly, supportive service to parents and carers. To heighten public awareness of the importance of play for all children and to support, advise and inform member toy and leisure libraries and user families including disadvantaged and those with special needs.
Children learn through play: from birth it enables them to explore their world. Through play, and with regular access to appropriate toys, they learn about their environment, how to relate to people, and how to recognise and handle everyday objects. Play is fun, an essential part of child development, and something to be enjoyed by the whole family. These toy libraries are supported and made ever more attractive with play session, puppet shows, outing activities. We encourage and promote using book libraries. Other professionals such as speech therapist are invited to the groups. Workshops- all ethnic groups get together to share cultural values and to build networks.
