The Early Years and Play Service provides a training programme to all Early Years and Play settings and childminders in the LB Hackney. The training programme meets Sure Start targets and reflects the priorities of the Education Development Plan 2.

We provide qualification courses such as:

• NVQ level 2 in Childcare and Education
• NVQ level 3 in Childcare and Education
• NVQ level 4 in Management
• Certificate in Playwork (level 2)
• Introducing Childminding Certificate
• Developing Childminding Practice.

These courses meet our targets to getting the workforce qualified. This year we have extended our qualification courses to include a programme specifically for the Orthodox Jewish nurseries.

The programme for the Early Years settings are divided into seven headings:

Management Training courses include Leadership - towards an integrated future, stress management etc.

Curriculum and child development Training courses include - How children learn series, Observation and recording methods, emergent writing etc

National standard Training courses include City & Guilds Certificate in food hygiene, Working in partnership with parents, City & guilds Certificate in Health & Safety, First Aid for staff working with Infants and Children, risk assessment etc.

Equalities training courses include Persona dolls in action, Demystifying equal opportunities opportunities etc.

Inclusion Training courses include Quality play - a response to special needs in group settings, code of practice & setting targets in Individual Educational, promoting positive behaviour etc.

IT training courses include word easy start, word essentials, excel essentials, outlook essentials etc.

Foundation stage training courses include maths made easy, learning through rhyme and poetry, developing the foundation stage through play etc.

Childminding training we offer childminders the following courses child protection, equal opportunities, business skills, first aid.

Hackney Play Association offers various courses for After School Clubs.

Linden Resource Centre
Is open to all childcare providers within the London Borough of Hackney. The centre operates a loan service for equipment such as topic boxes, puzzles, books, dressing up clothes, puppets etc. The centre specialises in SEN equipment, bulky items are transported to and collected from settings.
