Supplementary Schools enhance the learning experiences of young people through the provision of out of school classes and activities. They offer a range of learning opportunities including:
- National Curriculum subjects
- Home language classes
- cultural studies
- enrichment activities such as sport, music, dance and drama
- parental involvement opportunities
They run throughout the week at evenings or at weekends and are often lead by local community groups. The Schools operate from a variety of venues including community centres, places of worship and mainstream schools.
Supplementary education is for all young people at all key stages. Schools provide tuition to all abilities and are a great way for a young person to get additional help outside of school. All of the Schools in this brochure provide lessons in the core National Curriculum subjects; English, Mathematics and Science.
These Supplementary Schools are about celebrating the achievement of Hackney’s diverse residents and focus on learning new skills, strengthening self worth, community and parental involvement and success. There are also two courses to support parents; Empowerment for Parents and Speakeasy which run at selected schools and are free if your child is enrolled in a Supplementary School.
