Winner: Kat Sowter

Comments:
Very creative, inspiring teacher whose huge commitment of time has had a huge impact on motivating children and raising achievement.  Her support of parents has created firm and sustainable foundations in supporting children’s maths development.

Category: Teacher of the Year (Secondary/Special)

Winner: John Wayne Warren

Comments:
John is an exceptional teacher who has had a marked impact on his school and student achievement.  He has brought a whole array of music to a wider audience.  His engagement of staff has been exceptional.  He has furthered opportunities for his students through providing bursaries.  John has been innovative in his approach bringing music to support enterprise activities.

Winner: Sian Davies

Comments:
Sian is doing an exceptional job in turning around two schools. She places the needs of children at the heart of her activities and trains others to do the same.

Winner: Kevin McDonnell

Comments:
Kevin has shown all the qualities of an exceptional leader.  He has provided vision and direction and has promoted an ethos of high achievement for some of the most demanding students.

Category: Special Educational Needs Teacher of the Year

Winner: Pauline Caveney

Comments:
Pauline is a hugely effective practitioner. She has given a huge commitment of time to her role demonstrating boundless energy and total engagement with children and families. Pauline is a truly supportive colleague who demonstrates a real willingness to share best practice. This extends to other LEAs. Her cross-agency work is outstanding.

Category: Teaching Assistant of the Year

Winner: Kathy Ahmed

Comments:
Kathy touches the lives of the children with whom she comes into contact in so many ways. Not only does she encourage them to achieve well in numerous areas of the curriculum, but she also enables them to experience the creativity and discipline of dance in a wider context. Her dedication and enthusiasm embraces the whole community of Randal Cremer School.

Winner: Lucy Michael

Comments:
Outstanding career pathway.  Extraordinary charisma and ability to relate to children and parents.  Has achieved an extraordinary amount in a very short time.  Hugely supportive of special needs.  Winner of prestigious national award for children.

Winner: Lucy Still

Comments:
Outstanding teacher who has made impressive progress from teaching assistant to teacher. Ability to make subject successful and interesting. Wonderful ability to relate studies to reality. Innovative practice in introducing philosophy into curriculum.

Category: Outstanding Support Staff Contribution

Winner: Helen Edwards

Comments:
Helen is making an outstanding contribution to the effectiveness of the school. She demonstrates the importance of team work and the way in which support staff can free students and teachers to focus on learning.

Category: Learning Mentor of the Year

Winner: Leke Laguda

Comments:
Leke is making an outstanding contribution to improving the lives of young people in danger of criminality. He has a very innovative approach with concrete outcomes.

Category: Childcare Worker of the Year

Winner: Linda Qureshi

Comments:
Linda demonstrates huge and genuine commitment to the children and families in her care. She has maximised her potential in growing from parent volunteer to playgroup leader. There is a real sense of dedication to her role over the 27 years she has been involved with Webb Estate Playgroup.

Category: Business Partnership Award

Winner: Linklaters

Comments:
This is an exemplary partnership which widens horizons for students.  It provides support for high expectations and aspiration.

Category: Inclusive School Award

Comments:
The school has developed a prevailing ethos of inclusiveness to which all members of the school community subscribe. The evidence provided indicates a particularly strong message that every child does matter.

Winner: Reach Out Hackney

Comments:
Vital addition to the school community in academic progress, particularly with the homework club. Gives focused academic support and close evaluation of performance with additional sports and activities through utilising BME models.

Category: Sustainable Schools Award

Winner: Hackney Free and Parochial

Comments:
Hackney Free and Parochial has demonstrated sustainability of sustainable projects over a number of years. They show huge involvement with external partners to the extent of using them for work placements.  Their support and involvement of local primary children has been exemplary. They have used recycling and litter innovatively in the curriculum.

Category: Extended Schools Award

Winner: Millfields

Comments:
They have put the community at the heart of the school. Constantly changing their vision to meet the needs of the school and the activities are totally embedded in their philosophy of education. Activities impact on all generations.

Category: The Learning Trust Individual of the Year

Winner: Deborah Tucker

Comments:
Deborah is an exceptional person. She has inspired countless people to support our most vulnerable students. Her work has been transformational. She has been a key player in the expansion of this work. Her interpersonal skills are outstanding and her knowledge and skills are first rate. She has conducted an extremely fine analysis of her pupils needs.

Shortlist: David Wright, Elizabeth Yauner

 


Category: The Learning Trust Team of the Year

Winner: Teaching and Learning Team (Key Stage One)

Comments:
This team has had a huge impact laying the foundations for ‘Get Hackney Reading’. Their innovation and depth of knowledge has really helped move schools forward. The quality of training they provide is first class.
