16 - 19 Learner Support Fund

An allowance of up to 100 per term, may be given to students to provide exceptional support to students aged 16 -19, who are experiencing financial difficulty with meeting costs associated with learning.

In order to qualify students must meet the following criteria:

  • You should be a registered pupil at school/college aged 16–19 years
  • You must be living in Hackney on 30 June 2009
  • Your parents’ joint income is less than £30,810 a year or they/you receive DWP (Department for Work & Pensions) benefits or HM Revenue and Customs Tax Credits
  • You do not receive an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA).

The one-off maximum payment of £300.00 can be provided depending on your specific needs and your individual circumstances.

You can apply for financial help throughout the year as long as there are funds available.

The fund will close when the sum allocated by the LSC has been spent. The closing date for applications for financial help is 30 November 2009.

Hackney Schools Paralympics Championships

More than 750 children from 24 primary schools, eight secondary schools and four special needs schools will participate in the Schools at the Heart Hackney Schools Paralympics Sports Championships.

BBC Consults Northwold Pupils

Northwold Primary School took part in a BBC consultation. Children from Year 2 to Year 5, offered their views on current programmes aimed at children on TV, radio and the website.

Haggerston get fit with Gladiators

Haggerston School for Girls will be training with the Gladiators. Around 700 girls will compete in the Fit4schools programme with Predator to raise money for the PE department.
