| The Learning Trust Music Service - Hackney |
|
Established in 2000 the Music Service, which is part of the Learning Trust, offers a service in line with local authority aspirations, taking account of the Children and Young People Plans and the Every Child Matters agenda.
Its prime function is to ensure the strategic use of the DCSF Standards Fund Grant for Music. The Service provides music provision and advice for Hackney schools and works with Heads and teachers to provide the best possible support. Each year, the Music Service carries out a comprehensive, annual monitoring and review meeting with every school in the borough. It is this focus and working with schools that enables us to target our work force and budget to the greatest effect and to offer best value.
Our vision for the future is that music becomes a ‘normal’ activity for all young people in Hackney schools. We aspire to ensure access to good quality teaching and musical opportunities which will help to promote high standards of vocal and instrumental music in our schools. Our aim is that, with the support of the Learning Trust, music in Hackney is recognised for its contribution to the cultural and social development of young people.
The main aims of the Music Service are to:
- Sustain and enrich existing music provision in schools
- Increase access to instrumental and vocal musical opportunities
- Provide breadth in our musical programmes
- Seek to offer wider opportunities for music making activities in the borough
- Create performance opportunities for young people
- Work with high quality professional partners, and musicians.
- Support musical pathways and progression routes for talented young people
