Admissions Policy for 2008/9
Admissions to the nursery
The nursery admits a maximum of 20 part time children who have attained their third birthday. Places are allocated twice
a year in September and January.
Foundation Places
Governors have designated that a maximum of 10 nursery places are to be offered as Foundation Places to regular
worshipping members of a Christian Church. Parents applying for a Foundation Place do so on the understanding
that the Governors will ask for a letter of supportfrom the minister of religion detailed on the supplementary
form. If there are more applications than places available in this category, priority will be given to:
- those whose churches also belong to the Council of Churches in England (CCE)
- The African, Caribbean Evangelical Alliance (ACEA).
Unsuccessful applicants for Foundation Places will be considered for Open Places.
The school admits into reception a maximum of 45 children who become 5 in the academic year, as agreed with the LA.
Places are allocated twice a year in September and January. In order to be considered for a place you must complete a
Hackney admissions form and this must be handed into school or to the Learning Trust by February 1st 2008. There is no
automatic transfer from the Nursery to Reception ? all children must re-apply.
The school admits a maximum of 45 children in each year group, and 30 per class, as agreed with the LA.
Should there be more applications than places available the applicants are considered in two categories ?Foundation?
Places and Open Places in the following order.
Foundation Places
Governors have designated that a maximum of 23 places are to be offered as Foundation Places to regular worshipping
members of a Christian Church.
Parents applying for a Foundation Place do so on the understanding that the Governors will ask for a letter of
support from the minister of religion detailed on the supplementary form. The Governors will need to be satisfied
that the family fulfils the criteria for committed membership of their church. By this we mean attendance at least twice a
month for a year.
If there are more than 23 qualified applicants places will be allocated according to the following order of priority:
- Children who are in Public Care.
- Children whose parents are committed members and on the electoral roll of St. John the Baptist, Hoxton and St. Leonard's,
in Shoreditch.
- 3 Children whose parents are committed members and on the electoral roll of Holy Trinity, Hoxton; St. Anne's, Hoxton;
St. Chad's, Haggerston; and St. Peter?s De Beauvoir.
- 4 Children whose parents are committed members and on the electoral roll, or its equivalent, of other Christian
denominations.
It is the parent?s responsibility to ensure that by the date given, a supplementary formis completed by their church leader.
Where two or more applicants for a Foundation Place are deemed to be of equal standing, places will be allocated
according to:
the presence of siblings in the school at the time of admission to the school?s register. This would include
children in the legal guardianship of an existing parent of the school provided proof of guardianship could be given
e.g. residency order
the nearness of the home to the school, measured in a straight line.
If there are more applications than places available in this category, priority will be given to:

Open Places
The Governors have designated a maximum of 22 Open Places which are equally available to children of all faiths and of none.
Parents applying for an Open Place do so knowing that the school aims to provide an education based on Christian
principles, and that all children will be expected to take part in Religious Education and in Christian Acts of Worship both
in the school and the church.
If there are more than 22 applicants places will be allocated according to the following order of priority.
Children who are in Public Care.
The presence of a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission to the school?s register. This would
include children in the legal guardianship of an existing parent of the school provided proof of guardianship could
be given e.g. residency order.
The nearness of the home to the school, measured in a straight line.
At the Governors discretion, from the total number of Open Places available:
two places may, on the recommendation of professional agencies, be offered to children with acute medical or social
needs which this school may satisfy and it is demonstrated that they would suffer detriment going to another school.
The school maintains a waiting list, which will rank the children in accordance the over-subscription criteria and should there
be vacancies in either category after 1st May places will be filled to a maximum of 45 from either category. The length of time on
the application list will not be used as a criterion for admission.
Unsuccessful applicants in both categories
Parents of unsuccessful applicant?s have the right of appeal against the decision of the Governors. This appeal must be:
in writing on an appeals form available from the Head Teacher.
obtained within seven days of receiving a letter informing the parent that the application was unsuccessful
returned within 10 days.
The Head Teacher will forward it to the Clerk of the Independent Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committee
will meet to review the appeal on a date fixed by the clerk. The parents and a Governor representative will be invited to
attend. The decision of the Appeals Committee is final and binding on both the parents and the Governors, unless
reversed by the Secretary of State.
Open Places

Parents applying for an Open Place do so knowing that the school aims to provide an education based on Christian principles, and
