Admissions Policy for 2008/9
St. John of Jerusalem CE Primary School, in the parish of
South Hackney (Diocese of London) will admit each year the following numbers of children:
A total of 25 children in the Nursery class:
15 full-time/10 part-time a.m./10 part-time p.m.
A total of 30 children in the Reception class.
There will be two intakes per year dependent on the date
of birth as follows:
September intake: * Those who are 5 between 1st September - 28/29th February
January intake: Those who are 5 between 1st March - 31st August
The admission numbers and the dates of admission were agreed in consultation with the Local Authority.
Admission to classes which are oversubscribed:
In the event that the school is oversubscribed in any one year
group, the Governors' Admissions Committee will apply the
following criteria in order of priority to reach a decision about
a child's admission to the school: (N.B. Any child who attends
a place of worship will only be considered if the minister of
religion has confirmed regular worship on the form).
1 Looked after children.
2 Children whose parents/carers are regular (at least once every three weeks) worshippers at St. John of Jerusalem Church.
3 Children with documented acute medical/social needs (other than statement of SEN needs), for whom
in their view this is the most appropriate school to suit their needs. This must be supported by a letter
from a consultant, doctor or social worker.
4 Children who are already in the Nursery at St. John of Jerusalem CE Primary School.
5 Children who already have brothers and sisters attending the school and will have at the time of attendance.
6 Children whose parents are regular (at least once every three weeks) worshippers at a nearby Anglican
church for whom this is the nearest church school.
7 Children whose parents are regular (at least once every three weeks) at a neighbouring Christian church
for whom this is the nearest school.
8 Children of other faiths/beliefs who live within the parish of St. John of Jerusalem
and whose parents wish them to attend this school because of its religious tradition/particular ethos.
This should be accompanied by a letter from a leader of that faith to confirmthey are practising members of it.
9 Children who live nearest to the main entrance to the school (measured by the shortest walking distance).
In the event of over-subscription in any criterion the shortest walking distance from the school will
determine the child's admission.
The school maintains a waiting list and children are ranked on the list in accordance with the school's
oversubscription criteria.
