Learning and Teaching
Statement: Every child succeeds through the provision of an inclusive education within a culture of high expectations. We value the diversity of our community and workforce, which brings a celebration of cultural and religious difference. We believe that the adults working with children can and do make a significant difference..

We have a commitment and access to continuous lifelong learning for all members of our community

Our expectation in Hackney is that every child can achieve to the best of their ability, aiming for national aspirations, which is well supported by a commitment to early intervention

All schools and settings will add value through good-quality teaching and learning by using innovative strategies

Principles

  • Learning will be an enjoyable and challenging experience for all.

  • All children through assessment for learning will have secure foundations for subsequent learning

  • Our workforce will be reflective and innovative with its practice.

  • Learning will be vivid and real.

  • Children will be actively involved in their own learning and become confident and independent learners

  • All schools and settings will have systems in place to track all children's progress, including more vulnerable/disadvantaged groups (eg looked after children, children with SEN/disabilities, children in need, travellers and particular ethnic minority groups)

  • Children’s emotional health and well-being will be promoted.

  • Everyone within an educational setting will have a professional development folder – a continuing professional development entitlement.

  • The continuing professional development programme will be culturally sensitive

  • There will be an emphasis on basic skills – Quality Mark – focusing on literacy and numeracy standards.

  • Family learning programmes will be running and well attended.

  • Networks of schools and settings will share good practice that is based on learning.

  • Assessment for learning strategies will be embedded which also reflect pupil self-assessment and peer assessment and develop the child's voice further

  • There will be a tracking system which is evaluated regularly which links to intervention as needed.

Standards: What will it look like

  • There will be good-quality teaching and learning in schools and settings, which reflects our diversity and the different learning styles.

  • High standards of attainment and better than average value-added results will be achieved.

  • Well-qualified staff will meet the national standards requirements: NQT, NPQH, LPSH, NPQ, NVQ, Higher Level Teaching assistant, NPQICL.

  • A range of expertise will be shared through our leading practitioner programme and our Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs).

  • Good-quality self-evaluation systems in place in our schools and settings will ensure quality provision is available for all children
