What is Hackney Portage?
Portage is a home visiting service, which helps children with delayed development. Portage recognises that parents are the best people to teach their child and so relies on parental involvement in both the planning and carrying out of the child's learning development goals and activities.
Who is Portage for?
Portage caters for any child from birth to three years who appears to be behind in certain areas of development as well as children who have a recognised disability e.g. Down's syndrome.
Portage is part of the Educational Psychology Service and is run by Hackney's Learning Trust. The Portage Service works closely with other services such as the Donald Winnicott Centre, Speech Therapists and Educational Psychologists. How can I get Support from Portage?
Although most children come from the Donald Winnicott Centre, anyone can refer: parents themselves, visitors, GP's, physiotherapists.
