This admissions process is for children in Year 6 (born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009) who will start secondary school in September 2020. You should apply by 31 October 2019.
If you have moved to the area or wish to change secondary schools you can apply to change schools 'in-year' and be offered a place to start as quickly as possible. If you want your child to go to a different school, discuss any concerns with your current school. Changing schools can be very disruptive for children.
Secondary school transfer guide
Before you start you might find it useful to read through our secondary transfer guide which contains all of the key information you need to make your applications.
School open events
Open events at Hackney secondary schools are held in September and October. These are for families with children who will transfer to secondary school in September 2020, but anyone can attend.
Children with Education, Health and Care Plans
There is a separate transfer process for Year 6 pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan or are issued with a draft plan by 18 October 2019. You will get an application form to complete from the Education, Health and Care Planning (EHCP) team. You should use this form to list the schools you prefer for your child.

Children educated out of their normal age group
If your child is currently educated out of their normal age group, you can request that this continues, and your child remains in their current year group when they start secondary school.
You should discuss your child’s circumstances with your preferred secondary schools who will decide whether or not they can remain out of their normal age group. Hackney Learning Trust makes this decision on behalf of Haggerston School and Stoke Newington School and Sixth Form.
If your child is offered a place at a school that does not agree with your request, your child will be placed in their normal year group according to their age.
Please note that you will need to request a paper application form from the admissions team because the online application form does not accept applications for children educated out of their normal age group.
