14-19 Education and Careers

A guide to post 16 education in Hackney

Welcome to our new online prospectus showing information on Hackney's school sixth forms and colleges with links to their websites and prospectuses. Applications for places should be made directly to the school or college. Applications for places at Special Schools should go via the Special Educational Needs Team on 020 8820 7326.

Below are the dates of open days which are also included as a printable sheet in the documents section on the right. Also included in the documents is a summary of the courses available at our schools and colleges.

Although you are required to participate in education or training until you are 18 you do not have to remain in school. Find out more

Most of our school sixth forms have high entry requirements. Colleges may have lower requirements or offer courses that will prepare you for A level study. If you are unlikely to achieve 5 or more GCSEs at grades A* to C you may like to look at our brochure which includes courses at colleges and providers.

Open days for applications for 2018

Dates for school and college open days will be available shortly. While we endeavour to ensure accuracy, please note that open days are still being confirmed so we strongly recommend checking the date nearer the time of the event.

Selecting the right course for you

For help with selecting the right type of course you might like to look at UCAS progress. Some Hackney schools and colleges also list their courses there. However, this site is not controlled by Hackney Learning Trust so we recommend you check with your chosen institutions the availability of your preferred courses and current application details.

The National Careers Service provides useful information too. You can also access support with your decision making via webchat or telephone.

For other useful sites, see the links tab at the side of this page.

If you would like personalised help with choosing what and where to study please speak to your school careers advisor or see other careers advice available in Hackney.

You may be eligible for some additional funding to help you study. Find out more.

Personal Development

To improve your chances of getting a good university place, apprenticeship or job when you leave school, you need to do more than just academic study. Find out more about what you can do in and around Hackney.
